hpcwithpatient2fThe mission of DC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is to improve the health and well being of adolescents in Washington, DC. To accomplish this mission, DC Campaign advocates on behalf of teens to help them grow up to be healthy, productive adults.

Learning to take care of yourself now can mean you'll have fewer health problems in the future.

The old saying, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," is certainly true. What you do now will affect you later.

Top 10 reasons young people go to the doctor:

1) Feeling sick, for example, stomach or bowel pain;

2) Ongoing conditions such as acne, asthma, diabetes, cancer;

3) Sports/school/job physicals;

4) Sexually Transmitted Infections and HIV testing and treatment;hpc5fr

5) Birth control/pregnancy prevention;

6) Abortion services;

7) Prenatal/pregnancy care and services;

8) Diet/nutrition information;

9) Alcohol, tobacco and drug information and treatment;

10) Mental Health information and treatment.

It's YOUR business:stripr

It's always a good idea to talk with your parents about your health; after all, they've known you all your life and can give you details about your medical history. Everything you discuss with your doctor is confidential. That means they can't share this information unless you say it's okay.

Services you can get on your own:

  • STD/HIV services;
  • Prenatal care;
  • Contraceptive services;
  • Abortion;
  • Treatment for alcohol and/or drug abuse; and
  • Out patient mental health services.

Before you go:

  • Call ahead to make an appointment;
  • Ask how much it will cost;
  • Bring your ID (driver's license or school ID), shot record, school or sports physical form, proof of address and insurance card if you have one;
  • Be honest with the doctor so that you can get the best care possible!

How to Pay:

  • Remember, it is important to ASK how much the service will cost when you call to set up your appointment!
  • Most clinics take AMERIGROUP, Medicaid, DC Health Care Alliance, Health Right, Chartered Health Plan and other insurance.
  • If you do not have insurance, most clinics allow you to pay what you can.
  • Some clinics charge a specific fee, and some are free.
